Drink driver from Burnley was three times the legal limit

A DRINK-driver was caught more than three times the limit after an alcohol problem ‘reared it’s ugly head again’ a court was told.

Dawn Clapham, 43, had been stopped by a police officer after he had spotted her Vauxhall Astra swerving across the lane and nearly mounting the kerb on Barrowford Road, Higham, at 9.25pm.

Burnley magistrates heard how Clapham gave a positive roadside breath test and after she was arrested, she gave a sample showing 261 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

The defendant, of Kingsbury Place, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol, last December 4. She was given a 15-month supervision order and was banned for two years, must pay £85 costs and a £65 victim surcharge.

Richard Taylor, for Clapham, said she held down a responsible job and she had been working exceptionally hard before the offence and had not eaten for 48 hours.

Mr Taylor added Clapham was ashamed about what had happened and had now sought help.
