Fire guts bedroom in Burnley

AN investigation is underway after a man woke to find his bedroom on fire in Burnley in the early hours.

The man, said to be in his 50s, was asleep when the fire started at his home in Bracewell Street, just before 8pm on Friday.

Fire officials say he was woken by the smell of smoke and he managed to alert the emergency services shortly afterwards.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus controlled the blaze, which gutted the bedroom and left several other rooms smokelogged.

The householder was treated for smoke inhalation and later taken to hospital for a check-up. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
