Pendle MP welcomes moves to protect pubs

First published in News

PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed moves from the Government to protect local publicans.

The Government is setting up an independent adjudicator to address unfair practices in the pub industry. Mr Stephenson said: “I believe there is increasing evidence that the beer tie, as operated by the large pub companies, plays a significant role in the decline of the pub trade.

“We have seen seven pubs close in Brierfield, five in Barnoldswick, seven in Nelson, three in Colne, and numerous others in the surrounding areas.

“I warmly welcome yesterday’s Government announcement, which will provide great support to those who have campaigned on the issue and give stability for pubs and tenants. It will be good for growth and the pub trade.”

Mr Stephenson also paid tribute to the Campaign for Real Ale and invited other MPs to join him at the Pendle Beer Festival, from January 31 until February 2, at the Municipal Hall in Colne.

Why should our MP's waste their time trying to save a dead dog thats destroyed countless faminlies and lifes. Pub game finished when they banned smoking in them and thats that. Also would our MPs support smoking parlours no course not so why do they support the sale of alcohol..? Alcohol is much more damaging to the community and personal health than smoking ever was. One liver. Two lungs.yet they refuse patients care for certain things if they smoke.? weird but true personally I'm live and let live. Your body your choice.

Career MPs is all we have these days. All in to politics because theres a wage in it. And expenses. I remember the good old days before the war on humanity started 9/11 when you could walk around feeling free and unwatched when politicians were voted into power and you could have a smoke and a pint in the high street of your local town. If you drink a can of beer on the high street today you will be arrested or smoke in restricted areas arrested protest without a permit arrested you can't f@rt these days without planning permission.

The sheeple are beginning to awaken in their millions across the world I just hope its not to late for you to awaken and we can become as one and throw these murdering tyranical dictators to the depths of hell were they belong. Our forefathers allowed to many to escape justice in the nuremburg trials they have chosen to strike a blow on humanity once again and this time its global.

Personally I would like some of our politicians to grow some balls and tell these banksters were to go rather than waste their time trying to look good in their local pubs. Because thats all their words mean.

The British pub is not dead - there are still over 50 000 pubs in the UK.

One fo the biggest problesm facing pubs is that many are owned by national pubcos which are normally little more than property companies. The people running them from London could just as well be running office blocks and have little feel for making the local pub reflect its sommunity.

Indepedently owned pubs (or pubs owned by smaller chains) are closer to the customer and often do much better - by adopting the radical business model of listening to what their customers and communities say and trying to provide it - not telling them that nthey want what some accountant in the City of London says they want.

I'm not sure how much difference this announcement willl make but it is welcome.

PS If you want the great British pub to survive, I recommend direct action. Go to the pub a bit more often.

W.T,F. just take out the middle bit of this post and put the opening line and closing together and you can see how alcohol affects the brain. And our MPs spend valuable time on this cr@p while the economy is imploding around them. Are they living in a different world than Mr Average on the street. YES.

Get some growth in the economy going and am sure whats left of the pubs will do very well. But without any growth you can kiss your precious pubs goodbye Mr Exluded again.

I think he's going on about his aim of convincing us he is the font of all knowledge on politics in the modern world. But he falls laughably short.
1) He is factually incorrect on too many issues to make his puff-piece of any significant relevance.
B) Once he gets in his stride, he disables his off switch.
5) A miserable failure in not giving Pendle's MP the credit of addressing the REAL issue at the heart of the greed ruining communities by ripping the social hub out of them for company profit.
6) There is no 6.

Good comment.

Then how come coffee shops have thrived since the smoking ban came in (it's cheaper to buy cup of coffee in the supermarkets than beer)?

There have been waves of pub closures for various reasons since their peak numbers in the 1870s.

Where abouts are these coffe shops that the public can smoke in..? Maybe Excluded again as been going to the pub a bit to often. Its against the law to smoke in any public buildings. Smoking areas have to be supplied in privately run public establishments and thats only if you wish to supply a smoking area for your customers. "no places that you can sit IN and smoke"..

Get use to the fact that they're coming after the drinking population now they have stubbed out the smoker. The drinking population are about to be made into social outcasts just like the smokers have become.

Those who are implementing the changes in our crmbling society think it gets them in the 10% by doing so...their pathetic and when their pensions have been raped by the banksters and all the NI payments evaporate in the summer crash. Oh I didn't mention the next crash.? HARRY DENT: The US Has Gone Over The 'Demographic Cliff' And Markets Will Crash This Summer
Harry Dent is not one to shy away from predictions. Just take a quick look at some of the man's bibliography: he wrote The Great Boom Ahead in 1993 and followed it up with The Great Jobs Ahead in 1995. In 2009, he authored The Great Depression Ahead, and in 2011, The Great Crash Ahead.
Now, Dent, the economic forecaster perhaps best known for the use of demographics in his analysis, is predicting a big market crash this summer.

Can anyone remember the boom and bust years..? Hands up from those who benefitted from it..nobody...I don't know anyone up north who did or even remembers them a few not even knowing what they were.

So thats four years of boom and bust that none of us up north can remember never mind benefitted from for a guarenteed 12yrs of austerity no growth in the economy and a global depression and now a bedroom tax.

In my northern stupidity I can't work it out how thats a fair deal from those who caused the mess.

Lets just hope that the ones in the dark find the light soon and we can become as one mass and run the banksters and their helpers out of town and cast them to the history books forever. Makes sense to get rid of them the 10% who want to get rid of us the 90%.

If the agenda 21 programme goes to plan times running out for us the 90%. Oh I didn't mention Agenda 21..? Agenda 21 is explained very well by Infowars. Including implications it will have on humanity. Opinions within the video come in some cases from those that were in on the negotiations. Truly an interesting watch find it on line free its called:
