Lack of support for Barnoldswick festive decorations under fire
1:31pm Monday 7th January 2013 in News
BARNOLDSWICK Town Council has called for better preparation when it comes to future Christmas lights switch-ons.
A report by the council’s general purposes committee also criticised a lack of support in putting up the town’s decorations. It made a series of recommendations as to how this year’s efforts could be bettered.
It stated: “There had been little or no support in dressing and putting up the trees from the Chamber of Trade, traders or volunteers. Churches hadn’t been asked to help.”
Referring to the light switch-on on November 10, it continued: “More volunteers were required and the use of music should be reviewed.
“The advent hunt could be held earlier and the timing of the event is to be reviewed.”
Other points noted were issued concerned with health and safety , including more prominent first aid points and the provision of public toilets.
The council thanked Coun Ian Holgate for his efforts in orchestrating events.
