If you’re looking for a way to get out and about as a family this half term, why not enjoy a family holiday in the Lake District?  The Lakes are an ever-popular holiday destination with the stunning scenery well worth the drive alone.  While you’ll probably encounter each of the seasons during your stay, from a gorgeously bright day to a torrential downpour, just pack the wet weather gear and get outside!

Watch nature reawaken after the winter cold with a relaxing stroll around the Lake District.  Keep a look out for lambs, ducklings and flowers peeking through the ground.  For a real sign that spring has sprung, search for William Wordsworth’s daffodils which inspired his famous poem.  It was an April day in 1802 when William and his wife stumbled upon golden daffodils beside Glencoyne Bay on the banks of Ullswater.  Retrace his steps in his former home of Grasmere not forgetting to sample the famous not to mention very tasty gingerbread.  For a more family-friendly walk, why not try a dog walk with a difference.  Put your best foot forward with a llama in hand on the shores of Derwentwater.  A short and buggy-friendly route ensures that even the littlest of legs will make it to the end without moaning.  Or, head to Walby Farm Park not far from Carlisle, to feed the newborn farm animals and enjoy a wealth of outdoors activities for all ages.

While they say ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing’, if you do get stuck in a spring deluge, you’ll want to find fun, indoor attractions while you ride out the storm.  Beatrix Potter World in Bowness-on-Windermere is a great family day out which gives you the chance to follow in the footsteps of Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-winkle in their Lakeland home.  Another Lake District favourite is the Pencil Museum in Keswick where legend has it that the first pencil was created.  Today you can view the longest colour pencil in the world and get drawing tips in the drawing zone while Mum and Dad enjoy a coffee in the cafe!
