THE last civic duty of the outgoing Mayor of Pendle was to lay the foundation stone at Nelson's £5million Arts, Culture and Enterprise Centre.

When it opens in summer 2009 the centre will provide a wide range of facilities including a recording studio, art project room and cafe/bar leading out on to a court yard.

As he wielded a trowel Coun Alan Buck said: "I am so happy that during my year in office this fantastic facility is coming to fruition. It is without a doubt one of the most significant developments in Pendle for many years. Nelson will soon have a wonderful arts and entertainment centre at its very heart."

Sorry to bring a downer on this wonderful news but is it confirmed that the zippy named ACE centre can actually promise what it says it can or are we going to have a new(er) No 1. Market Street scenario?
