A DRUNKEN father-of-three attacked his daughter after she announced she was gay.

Ian Lord, 42, told Burnley magistrates gays did not "bother him" - but he did not like his daughter being one.

Lord had landed in court after reducing the victim Danielle, 23, to tears, bending back her fingers and twisting her arm.

He had branded his middle child a "dirty lesbian," and had told he he would never accept her sexuality, the bench was told.

The defendant, of Bowland Avenue, Burnley, admitted assault by beating on June 3.

He was given a 12-month community order with supervision and must pay £75 costs.

The justices told him the sentence was to address his homophobic attitudes and look at his issues with temper, relationships and alcohol,.

Bill Maude, prosecuting, told the court Danielle Lord was "blanked" by her father after she announced she was gay.

She was at home on her computer when the defendant, who had been powerwashing outside and drinking, came back into the house.

She asked him why he was being difficult and he replied: "Because you're gay and I don't believe in it."

Mr Maude said Miss Lord told her father to get over it and accept it and he said he could never accept it.

The defendant screamed at the victim, making insulting and abusive comments and squeezed back the fingers on her left hand, causing her pain.

He then started to twist her left arm away from her.

Lord told police he had had five or six cans of cider and had not intended to hurt Danielle.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, told the hearing he was still living apart from his family and wanted to go home.

He said: "Gays don't bother me at all but I don't like my daughter being gay."
