Biography

MP Since - 2005 Majority - 5,778 Born - 18/03/1971. Married, 1 daughter & 1 son.

Education - Balliol College, Oxford (BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics MA); Birkbeck College, London (MSc Economics).

Previous Occupation - Economist: Intelligence Unit (1997-98), Centre for European Reform (1998-2000); Chief Economist, Britain in Europe (2000-01). Special Advisor to Patricia Hewitt and the Department of Trade & Industry.

Personal Overview - Her interests politically lie with economic, industrial and regional policy. She follows on from the Old Labour stalwart Peter Pike, and has the opportunity to carve out a considerable political career given such a strong constituency base. In an area blighted in recent times by links to racist elements she will need to pay careful attention to local issues if she is to prove a force for integration between the areas various ethnic groups. Resigned from the Government shortly after being appointed a Minister at the Treasury in the June 2009 reshuffle after questions were raised concerning her tax affairs.
