Normally I wouldn't think about reviewing a repeat but so many people had said that I had to watch Extraordinary People on Five that I made a point of tuning in last night.
The Man With No Face certainly lived up to the programme's overall title - but as well as extraordinary it was also heartbreaking.
It was the story of Jose Mestre who was born with a birth mark which just grew and grew.
Now it is almost impossible to describe as it has develooped into a tumour which has taken over his face. He can only see out of one eye and has to lift the tumour to be able to eat.
What makes the story more upsetting is that Jose could have had treatment to have the tumour removed. But coming from a family of Jehovah's Witnesses he did not want a bloood transfusion - a necessary part of any operation.
Now the tumour is so big it would involve highly risky surgery. His sister clearly wanted Jose to put his religious beliefs to one side and improve the quality of his life. But the only concession he would make was to have a few minor lumps - which are now threatening to encircle his good' eye - removed.
You have to respect him for his devotion to his faith but it is a heart-breaking tale.
Human tragedy and TV. Sadly the two do seem to go together rather too well.

Hi everyone this is about the man with no face Mr Danny H is on every comment board I have ever seen that has Jehovah's Witnesses somewhere. People are most likely, like myself tired of seeing his name and don't care to see all of his anti witness opinions... I am here to read the NEWS not Deal with personal conflicts.. I understand the man with no face. It's funny how people blame God when bad things happen. They accuse him of taking loved ones when they die, saying it was meant to be. Yet, if they truely believed what they said that god takes people when he wants why do they go for medical proceedures to try to extend thier lives? Not all surgeries need blood... Has anyone been reading about stored blood losing it's life saving effects after being stored a certaion length of time and the dangers that it can pose? The man with no face is still a human. It would be nice to leave his personal belief out of it. You will never understand faith like his untill you have the faith in Jehovah that he has. He awaits Bible promises that will allow him to live in a restored paradise with a perfect body like Adam and Eve could of had. Blood is spoken of in the Bible as the gift of life and God asks that if it is pour out that it stays on the ground as he has the right to use this gift the way he wants to.. In saying that not eveyone believes in Him and that is fine. We all can make choices. Lets focus on getting along and keeping up the encouragment to ones like in the article above. May the man with no Face and others fine peace in their faith and may we all learn to love.

Regarding John Anson's comment on the "Man with no face" , Anson is incorrect that blood transfusions are a necessary part of all surgeries. Most cutting-edge medical centers offer bloodless surgeries, and many use ONLY bloodless surgeries ... including the medical center where I worked prior to retiring. There are many superior substitutes for blood, since the primary need is for volume expanders, far more than for red-cells.

TO:Posted by: David R, Florida on 6:59am today REPLY,David you are a Watchtower apologist who just posted a rambling twisted Bible thumped cut & paste propaganda piece from Watchtower literature. This is the key point in dispute here and everywhere:The Watchtower ALLOWS 80% of what is in a bag of blood, the leadership arbitarily decides what PARTS of blood can be used. Sooo,if blood is ALL sacred to GOD where do they get the right to play God themselves and decide what parts of something that is ALL sacred can be used?? This isn't just an academic controversy,THOUSAND S of followers are DEAD over this!!!!

You obviously did not get the point of my post. Those element that just happen to be in blood but are not exclusive to blood i.e. water, proteins etc & Other elements in blood can now even be synthasized (do not actually come from blood even though blood might contain them - as in many modern vaccinations. Even an artificial oxygen carrier is in development.) whereas the major blood fractions until now only exist in real blood and are exclusive to blood and should be abstained from.

I have given up on reading this article half way through. I am a chrisitian but does not mean I worship God or anything. Please stick to the issue at hand!! Jenovah witness or not imagine you had to have an operation which is more likely to kill you then save you would you take the risk? People have their own views and opions but no need to argue about it, blimey stop the revolt and start talking about the issue of 'the man with no face' it was emotional i wanted him to do it but i understand he wanted to keep with the tradition in the end he went for the operation but we never saw it or saw him after therefore he could either be dead or will show a sequel to it?!

margaret lynn wrote:Obviously you are not a doctor, but there are circumstances where a blood transfusion (not a substitute) is required. Pls do not take the WT or GB's word for it. Do your own research, ask professionals-please be an independent thinker, do not let them do it for you. You are all just little puppets in their control game. It is so sad to see, I will pray for you that someday you will engage in a personal relationship with the one & only mediator JESUS not the book publishing/real estate company in B'lyn. OPEN YOUR EYES & HEART.
Since there has been open heart surgeries without blood I see no reason why a person cannot have any surgery without blood.
