MELLOR Brook Community Centre continues its run of first rate folk acts when the Tannahill Weavers come to the venue next Sunday.
Blending traditional melodies with foot stomping rhythms, the Tannahill Weavers still feature original members Roy Gulane and Phil Smillie who formed the band more than 40 years ago.
The group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms.
Over the years the Tannahill Weavers – they take their name from a Scottish poet – have been trailblazers for Scottish music, and their tight harmonies and powerful, inventive arrangements have won them fans from beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes.
They are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage; from reflective ballads to infectious reels and jigs.
The band were inaugurated into the Traditional Music Hall of Fame in December 2011.
Support is from Blackburn singer-guitarist, Richard Moss. He works for Reidy’s, plays guitar for ceilidh band, Union Street and fronts Clitheroe-based Irish traditional band Rakish Paddy.
