BY its very nature, Charlotte Church’s chat show is rife with potentially cringeworthy moments, which bring about a total opposite viewing experience to watching the successful ones which make you feel you are in safe hands.
Parkinson had our respect and the current chat show king Jonathan Ross is simply faultless — he’s funny and impossible to fluster.
So you’d think that TV executives would focus on these qualities when looking for a new host. Or, maybe, not.
It’s definitely a case of “not” with The Charlotte Church Show, back for a third series.
She's certainly not everybody's cup of tea but the show does contain some good material and scope for further improvement as Charlotte is very much a newcomer to this genre of entertainment.
Unfortunately, her inexperience shows, but she does a better job than most novices might and she can be genuinely funny at times.
She does, however, have a tendency to throw in the odd profanity or two.
This is the problem with Charlotte Church, and with Lily Allen too.
Someone convinced them that being themselves was their job.
It’s not. Their real selves are awkward, boring and self-indulgent.
They need to be someone else — someone more witty and professional and, well, just better.
Here’s an idea — don’t give up your day jobs.
