I LOVE it when rare birds successfully breed in Lancashire.

This season a pair of black tailed godwits raised young on the Lancashire coast thanks to the guardianship of the RSPB.

The black-tailed godwit is like a small version of a curlew, but with straight bill and lovely rusty coloured plumage around the head.

The RSPB, along with its partners United Utilities, Natural England and the Lancashire County Council, has set up a webcam to allow hen harriers to be watched. This can be seen in the Trough of Bowland’s pleasant visitors’ centre in the Beacon Fell Country Park.

Here there is a cafe, good parking and lots of country walks to be enjoyed.

The first of the Bowland hen harriers is very much an extra bonus and children of all ages from under nine to over 90 will be thrilled by the sight.
