AS a way of celebrating its 40th anniversary season, the Octagon could not have come up with a better production than this.
Set in the build up to the famous White Horse FA Cup final at the then new Wembley', And Did Those Feet is funny, moving and just so worth seeing.
Commissioned for the anniversary season, the play follows a set of characters as Bolton Wanderers edge ever near to cup glory.
But, and it's a testament to the writing, you don't need to be a football fan to enjoy this production.
Set against a backdrop of rising unemployment in the mills and with a population still deeply affected by the First World War, the play is part social commentary, part history lesson - and a fine evening's entertainment.
Jeff Hordley and Paul Simpson are perfectly cast as two brothers Ted and Jim, Ted's the practical one, Jim's the idealist caught up in a wave of socialism.
Unfortunately Ted is also due to marry his football hating girlfriend on cup final day. The versatile space of the Octagon has been ingeniously used to portray everything from front parlour to terraces.
A first rate cast ensure that the audience experiences every emotion and like the White Horse Final, And Did Those Feet is destined to be remembered for years to come.
