TWO teenagers were attacked in the street by a gang of youths.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, were walking past Queen Victoria Park, Burnley, at around 2.35pm on Wednesday when they were attacked by a group of youths.

One of them was left with injuries including a bloodied nose and facial swelling, while the other has a suspected fractured eye socket.

Police said that the attack appears to have been unprovoked.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have any information to come forward.

In particular, they are keen to trace two women who intervened and tried to help the victims.

Det Sgt Graham Gallagher said: "This appears to have been a completely unprovoked attack on a two youths.

"They sustained quite nasty injuries. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"A thorough investigation has been launched and we are very keen to find out who is responsible.

"With that in mind, I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

"I am particularly keen to speak to two females who intervened to stop the attack.

"One was a white woman who was driving a white coloured car and the other was a young Asian girl.

"I would also urge anyone who may have heard anything about the attack to come forward.

"The more information we have, the better chance we will have of identifying those responsible and taking action."

The attackers were described as a group of Asian youths. The incident is not being treated as racist.
